From Game Programming to Purposeful Education
14 June 2025

Boon Lim studied game programming and later became a university lecturer for the subject. After years in higher education, he began searching for something more meaningful.

He found Dignity and was drawn to its mission of providing quality education to marginalised children and youth.

"Teaching in Dignity opened my eyes to the vast digital divide and the urgent need for digital literacy in underserved communities."

The students at Dignity are less privileged compared to the college students Boon Lim taught. Their digital knowledge and exposure to technology are limited, which makes it harder for them to comprehend certain concepts. This prompted Boon Lim to teach in more visual, hands-on ways.

What began as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teaching role grew into something bigger. Boon Lim now leads Dignity’s IT department where he is developing curriculum, training staff, fixing and repurposing devices, and building systems that support learning across the foundation.

For Boon Lim, education is no longer just about passing on knowledge. It’s about creating access and opening doors.

At Dignity, he’s found a space where his skills in tech can make a real difference.
